re: Corporate thinking eludes us

Reply to Brother Scientists invent Machinery saja.

Thank you for your comments.

At last after waiting for several days, thank God, there is some one reading and agreeing with my suggestions and ideas.

Sorry to say that, in spite of tremendous freedom of expression in BB opinion columns, still there are hurdles, obstacles, censoring, a bit of vested interests, reluctance, back peddling etc, etc.

Hence I consider HYS is an excellent forum for discussing these matters, but unfortunately not very much of serious discussion take place and not very many intellectuals and economists discuss important issues.

However there are far too many non-issues that are talked about( in HYS) in length- the issues that do not help in making Bumiputra community a business community similar to their Chinese compatriots in Brunei.

Indirectly BB encourages Jati Brunei to work hard and be enterprising, but there is no response from the individuals. Our people continue to be fruit and satay sellers and Gerai holders, and so the intellectuals and decision makers at the highest level of Govt. Administration should come up with some ideas as I have suggested to create corporate awakening among the Malays.

I am a layman too. Mine is not a blue print for huge changes, I hardly know much of economics, there should be a lot more discussions by the brainy ones.

But one thing , I am sure, as long as we remain this way, expecting Govt. employment and Govt. subsidy and enjoying easy going life and spending more than what we earn making use of credit facilities offered by foreign banks, I am sure industrially advanced nations of the Barat will continue to dominate our culture, religion, economy, politics, finance, business and even the length of our dress, and we will continue to be their slaves and clients.

History repetas itself. At present, in Iraq, that sad part of history is painfully being repeated and our hands are tied at the back, and we expect miracles to happen. God Knew Best.

yes..im actually quite surprised that no one gave positive respond to this idea. we bruneian cant depend on the oil industry forever..we will someday run out of oil. im also aware that many bruneians are dependant on credit cards. u can see during pay day ppl queing up at the banks to pay up their credit cards/car loan and some other type of loans. many are actually using credit facilities to finance their everyday life, then on pay day use up most of their salaries to pay back their debt. surely we cant go on like this forever! ive actually have the thought of saving up abt 5% of my salary everymonth to be invested someday eversince im still in school, noticing that almost every1 ard me just seem to be very dependant on credit cards and always worrying of their due dates and interest rates.

i like the idea of forced equity investment coz judging from the many issues of allowances-not-enough and price hikes, i dont think many ppl are keen on having their salaries deducted. there's no better way to change the bruneian way of living than that.

HRD EDUCATION SERVICES

EDUCATION AGENT
for me.... go to JH, D is very helpful... and very reliable... compared to B***... B*** is "manis" di mulut... but no action. I did have experience with BLau... initially so active and yet after that didnt even frwd emails frm the uni... i almost lost the offer luckily i checked myself and took things in my own hands... BLau slow at responding... Thats what i wanna share... as apparently, i am not the only use who endure the same experience with B***. And my experience with JH, was great... very helpful and tried his best to assist in anyway possible... despite that i didnt get any offer (as my course is competitive) but D was such a great help and he is one good guy too! Tell you what... when i was at B***, they badmouth other education agents as well which didnt happen while i was with JH. Okay guys.... ciao...

Better also go to HRD at telanai, when i was trying to pursue my further studies after graduate my hnd (direct entry degree) and trying to contact directly to one of the favourable uni @UK via the HRD.

People @HRD really2 helpful and professional when i requested them to contact directly from phone to the admission office at that uni in uk and when i request to get my offer letter asap from the fax, 3-4days later i hav received one.

So better look at HRD services to students who really2 need serious and appropriate action particularly when those HRD contacting directly with those uni favourable.

park on the side: Giant Rimba

I wanna share this post with u guys. Today i had free time around 12 til 2pm. So me and my geng2 decided to lunch out at Gadong properties. Male frens one car, we the girls one car. on our way from university, the highway was ok..like everyday situation. all of sudden, my fren, who was driving, mbreak mngajut! we were like.."AHHH!" hahaha bini2 kli ah. the car infront us was signalling to the right. We just realised ALOTS AND ALOTS OF CAR parked at the side of the HIGHWAY! i was like...whats wrong with these people? so my frens said its da opening of new supermarket Giant. all i cud say was "oohhh....okeehh". My fren drove slowly...and i cud see the people were walking to Giant! can u imagine that? like, Giant is at Maktab Duli gadong and u park ur car at HwuHo lama dkat traffic light. It was noon, it was hot, but yet...people were WALKING to Giant. Jauh kli ah. Klu aku lh, aku nda snggup eh. Biar tia kana ucap ketinggalan. Arh highway g tu drng parking. Mcm....kalah perayaan hari jadi Sultan ramainya. i just knew that today is pay day. so...no wonder. PLUS, today is the opening ceremony of Giant which offer CHEAPER groceries. what i heard is that baras wangi is just $9.90. i dunno lh if thats ture. i just hear from a fren. So on our way back to university, STILL bnyk krita parking d siring2 jln. i saw few families with trollies full of groceries. i was like...wow! Nda ku snggup eh. myb beasak2 d Giant atu aku sanggup, but to park my car on the side of highway and walk 500m to Giant at NOON...wah! Pengsan kli eh. dh lah panas, jauh g. bar th ku nda ksana. so ok, i finished clas around 3.45 and went home. i use the same highway to go back home. AGAIN, still ramai yg parking siring2 jln. Even arh jmbatan pun panuh. Ijab ku jmbatan atu rubuh...aku th lgi bcapat beUri. While driving, i was thinking..wats so special at Giant? ok first, cheaper price compare to other stores. lagi? is it ada yg free or wat? coz im no so into this stuff...i mean..inda ingau..kira outdated sikit.

So people at HYS, can u share ur knowledge about this Giant thing here? if u have been there, tell me and us more about the price, stuff or perhaps ada special occasion (mayb) held during the opening? or ada benda yg free2? How does Giant look like? just groceries or ada baju2? Share2lh..mna tau plan isuk kn mlanggar ksana.

Ciao!

REPLY - Teacher

Teacher:

postgraduates not initially trained to become a teacher actually have to take up PGCE.. meaning they have a total of 5 years of studying. 4years of subject content + 1 year of education courses. not that much difference with those already in the teaching programe; they also do 1 year of education courses but only 3 years of subject content. i think. those doing engineering courses will teach physics. biologists will teach bio and etc etc.. not mismatched at all.

------------------------------------------------

may i ask you PEOPLE some simple questions, do you REALLY wanted to be a TEACHER in the first place when you took your engineering degree? OR you were expecting OR hoping to work at an engineering-oriented sectors like JKR or SHELL etc that suits your qualifications, OR being a teacher was a LAST attempt for SALVATION!

if you wanted to be a teacher in the first place, or your AMBITION was to be a teacher, then why took engineering courses? and WHAT IS YOUR TRUE AMBITION?

today, being or ended up as a teacher was a LAST RESORT for graduates if they got STUMPED (cricket term), well, some but NOT ALL!

To my fruit heart...

I WANT TO CUT CONNECTION US. I have think about this very cook-cook. I know i clap one hand only. Correctly, i have seen you and she walk-walk together at town with eyes myself. You grab hand she. You always ask for apology back-back. I don`t trust you again!!! You are really crocodile land.
My friends speak you play wood three. So, i break connection to pull my body from this love triangle. I know this result i pick is very correct, because you love she very high from me. So, i cut this connection to go far from here. I don`t want you to play-play with my liver. I have been crying until no more eye water thinking about you. I don`t want banana to fruit two times.

Safe walk...

Re: To Lena - whats important and whats not

What's important and what's NOT important
Ok....the following topics is NOT gonna help this country to move forward:

1. Ones husband cheating on his wife or vice versa

2. Football (war of words between english premiership fans) - unless you are talking abt how to improve local football

3. Allowances

4. Unwanted ads - go somewhere else to sell your things

Another thing:

Some radio stations in Brunei lack professionalism. Think about it, are you as good as UK's Capital FM? with the incessant flirting, un-dj-ish voice etc etc... might as well just play songs in the radio cos we would rather hear music than your immature, unprofessional dj-ing. You Dj's can learn a LOT from Capital FM and try to make Brunei's radio more bareable and try not to embrass us Bruneians. Does asking ur own friends to call in to help you have callers on the show help? as if thats not enough...they called in many times and use different voices. Very shameful.

What is up with people giving fake-names? Its better to give yourselves proper names if you do not want to reveal yourself BUT 'Queen Fah' or other crazy nicknames?! What would expatriates or tourists think? It is VERY embarassing it is.

You obviously have been away from this country too long my dear!

Those topics that you have picked have no relevance at all in moving the country forward or not. Those people are just venting out their problems and opinions here in an almost the same way as Auntie Agony column or anything like it because they know they will get some response from people out there. I think those topics are quite common and unprovoking compared to some other more horrible posts, if you read carefully. Chill out my dear girl! I know Brunei is a hot country but you will get used to the weather in no time. Take your time to settle down. Oh and also there is no more Capital FM in Brunei y'all.

Where to work? BB or TBT

A'kum everyone. I'm about to graduate from my journalism degree this year and I've been researching into which company would be better for me to work in sebagai journalist. Since tahun lepas, aku banyak research sudah into which company is better sebagai employer, BB ataupun TBT and banyak sudah pun ku dengar about these 2 papers. my dad reads both papers and bagitau sudah they are different papers, BB is more community based with light reading materials here and there, but TBT is more serious, focusing on Brunei punya ekonomi. Of course since my interest is business, I would prefer to work for TBT. But alot of my friends, ada yang pernah kerja sana and others yang kanal people di sana and they all have really bad stories to tell about the place. aku ingat last year someone kana fired, lapas atu di postnya di brudirect how management is pretty bad di sana, firing people yang they don't like. one of my friends who just left bagitau that TBT is run by a CEO, cina dari construction (?? pandai ka tu run newspaper?), yang gila gelaran and nama, and choose to fire siapa saja ia inda suka, and suka suka suruh orang buat apa apa saja ia mau walaupun against the law. I would really like to work for TBT cos I think ia punya content is better, tapi kalau management nya macam atu, my family surely inda suruhku ke sana. some people also bagitau nya management treat expats better than local, entah lah most places di Brunei cam atu jua.

So basically yang kan ku tanya everyone, anyone out there pernah work di TBT or currently working di sana that can tell me whether I should apply. I would really like to tapi kalau rumours nya banar, garantee my family inda nyuruh ke sana. Please help.
