Learn from Mistakes

Thomas Edison tried two thousand different materials in search of a filament for the light bulb. When none worked satisfactorily, his assistant complained, "All our work is in vain. We have learned nothing."

Edison replied very confidently, "Oh, we have come a long way and we have learned a lot. We now that there are two thousand elements which we cannot use to make a good light bulb."

Destiny
by: Anthony de Mello, SJ, One Minute Wisdom

To a woman who complained about her destiny the Master said, "It is you who make your destiny."

"But surely I am not responsible for being born a woman?"

"Being born a woman isn't destiny. That is fate. Destiny is how you accept your womanhood and what you make of it."

Attitude
by: Rev. Charles Swindoll

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, then circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think, say, or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company, a church, a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.

We cannot change our past. We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you. We are in charge of our attitudes.

Greatness
by: Anthony de Mello, SJ, One Minute Wisdom

"The trouble with the world," said the Master with a sigh, "is that human beings refuse to grow up."

"When can a person be said to have grown up?" asked a disciple.

"On the day he does not need to be lied to about anything."

People You Meet

Four people you will meet in life. Life is the process of finding love; every person will need to find four people in their life.

First person is you,
Second person is the one you love most,
Third person is the one who love you most,
And the fourth is the one you spend the rest of your life with.

In life, firstly you will meet with the one you love most, and learn how love feels. Because you know how love feels, so you can find the person who loves you most.

When you have experienced the feeling of loving others and being loved, you will then know what it is you need most. Then you will find the person who is most suitable for you, to be able to spend the rest of your life with.

Sadly, in real life, these three people are usually not the same person.

The one you love most doesn't love you. The one, who love you most, is never the one you love most.
And the one you spend your life with, is never the one you love most or the one who love you most.
He is just the person who happens to be at the right place at the right time.

Which person are you in other people's life?

No person will purposely have a change of heart.
At the point in time when he loves you, he really loves you. But when he doesn't love you anymore,he really doesn't love you anymore. When he loves you, he can't pretend that he doesn't. Same goes, when he loves you no more, there's no way he can pretend he loves you.

When a person doesn't love you and wants to leave you. You must ask yourself if you still love him, If you also don't love him anymore, do not keep him just to save your pride. If you still love him, you should wish him happiness, and hope that he will be with the one he loves most, not stop him from it. If you stop him from finding true happiness with the one he loves, it shows you already don't love him, And if you don't love him, what rights do you have to blame him for a change of heart?

Love is not possessive, If you like the moon, you can't just take it down and put it in your basin, But the moonlight still shines upon you. In other words, when you love a person, you can use another method of possessing the person. Let him become a permanent memory in you life. If you really love a person, you must love him for what he is. Love him for his good points, and the bad, You can't wish for him to become like what you like him to be just because you love him. If he can't change to become what you like him to be, you don't love him anymore.

When you really love a person, you cannot find a reason why you love him, You only know that no matter when and where, good mood or bad mood, you will wish to have this person be with you. Real love is when two people can go through the toughest problems without asking for promises or listing criterias. In a relationship, you have to put in effort and give in at times, not always be on the receiving end. Being away from each other is a type of test, If the relationship isn't strong, then you can only admit defeat. Real love will never become hate.

When two people are in love, They love to ask each other to swear, to make promises. Why do they ask each other to swear and promise?
Because they don't trust each other, they don't trust their lover. These swear and promises are useless; Till the sky falls, till the ocean dry, my love for you will never change! We all know that the sky will never fall; the ocean will never dry, Even if it does happen, are we still alive by then?
Be careful when making promises; don't make promises that you cannot keep.

In a relationship, what you say is one thing, but what you do is another; The one saying, doesn't believe; the one listening, also doesn't believe.

Guys who are Goldiggers

Wow, I've read the posts and all I have to say is....

Dudes, if you can't make money for yourself and instead, you rough up/sweet talk/do anything and everything desperate towards ladies for cash to look and sound good....

My advice...?

Castrate yourselves cos you are a bunch of sissies..Maybe you'll do better as nice looking transexuals..I would have used the term, "Man-wh*res"...but you don't even deserve the word 'Man' applied to you...cos REAL MEN don't do the degrading deeds you do to get money and act rich.

Take it from me, baby boys....if you can't be gentlemen, at least try to have some b*lls and do the right thing, yeah? Don't ask, beg or steal money from the ladies...

Instead, Go out there and make some for yourself. Kick the sissy out of you cos sooner or later, someone somewhere will do that to you when they find out how you scam money off ladies...Get my drift?

TBT or BB

Hi Journalist Wannabe,

Looks like you also heard about all these rumours about TBT Management. Since leaving almost one year now, I still hear alot and let me tell you, as long as this CC (as you call him) still heading the company, there will be no future for TBT. I know that when the company started, international newspaper specialist consultant who have more than 30 years of experience in newspaper industry cannot work with him because he is too stupid and make nonsense decisions. He also likes to blame everyone for whatever goes wrong in the company, when in fact those ideas was his in the first place.

I still have ears in the company, and they have told me so many times, the best people are all quitting one by one because nobody wants to work for this CC, who have many dirty secrets his bosses don't know about. In Malay, I believe the word to describe him is ULAR.

BT has great promise, but if you want to work there, just know what you're getting into. Otherwise wait until this CC leaves and hopefully BT can move forward then.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Where to work? BB or TBT

A'kum everyone. I'm about to graduate from my journalism degree this year and I've been researching into which company would be better for me to work in sebagai journalist. Since tahun lepas, aku banyak research sudah into which company is better sebagai employer, BB ataupun TBT and banyak sudah pun ku dengar about these 2 papers. my dad reads both papers and bagitau sudah they are different papers, BB is more community based with light reading materials here and there, but TBT is more serious, focusing on Brunei punya ekonomi. Of course since my interest is business, I would prefer to work for TBT. But alot of my friends, ada yang pernah kerja sana and others yang kanal people di sana and they all have really bad stories to tell about the place. aku ingat last year someone kana fired, lapas atu di postnya di brudirect how management is pretty bad di sana, firing people yang they don't like. one of my friends who just left bagitau that TBT is run by a CEO, cina dari construction (?? pandai ka tu run newspaper?), yang gila gelaran and nama, and choose to fire siapa saja ia inda suka, and suka suka suruh orang buat apa apa saja ia mau walaupun against the law. I would really like to work for TBT cos I think ia punya content is better, tapi kalau management nya macam atu, my family surely inda suruhku ke sana. some people also bagitau nya management treat expats better than local, entah lah most places di Brunei cam atu jua.

So basically yang kan ku tanya everyone, anyone out there pernah work di TBT or currently working di sana that can tell me whether I should apply. I would really like to tapi kalau rumours nya banar, garantee my family inda nyuruh ke sana. Please help.

Clarification

My thoughts exactly. It only happens here. No where else. The speed is crap, the service well! its on its way down. I remember BMobile when they started. Their services were better than DST. Now, its the opposite. I basically canceled my BMobile phoneline coz their charges' the same and their expiry date for the prepaid got shortened.

I think when a company takes over a government facility to run a business, it makes them complacent cos they didn't have to start from scratch. So the attitude is 'Who Cares, afterall we are the monopoly here'. That sucks big time.

--------------------------------------

Not to step into your espeed debate or anything. Just a clarification about bmobile that:

1) No, the charges aren't the same as espeed, they're actually heaps better which is why me and my mates use it here at UBD, its basically convenient without the hassle of monthly charges (prepaid) and so much better than the limited coverage of 'Wave' and their hard to get 'wave topup cards'.

2) Bmobile has already lengthened the expiry date similar to DST instead of shortening it way back in 2006!

3) Without bmobile, DST will still be monopolising the mobile market and you will not be complaining as such because you will still be paying the ridiculous charges DST imposed before and forced to live with it.

So if you are going to make any comments or criticism, do get your facts right and updated or else its going to mislead the readers here which is very damaging to the parties involved.

Do note that in Brunei, there is no such thing as a 'full' privatisation. There will always be govenrment bodies backing and influencing it in one way or another. In the case of Telbru, they're 'corporatise', which means part of it is still government controlled.

I do agree that just like our mobile market in Brunei, its high time that another ISP license be issued. This will then promote healthy competitions from such ISPs to pull up their socks and provide better services to us end users.

Happy marriage -> unhappy marriage -> single

NEW YORK - A happy marriage is good for your blood pressure, but a stressed one can be worse than being single, a preliminary study suggests.

That second finding is a surprise because prior studies have shown that married people tend to be healthier than singles, said researcher Julianne Holt-Lunstad.

It would take further study to sort out what the results mean for long-term health, said Holt-Lunstad, an assistant psychology professor at Brigham Young University. Her study was reported online Thursday by the Annals of Behavioral Medicine.

The study involved 204 married people and 99 single adults. Most were white, and it's not clear whether the same results would apply to other ethnic groups, Holt-Lunstad said.

Study volunteers wore devices that recorded their blood pressure at random times over 24 hours. Married participants also filled out questionnaires about their marriage.

Analysis found that the more marital satisfaction and adjustment spouses reported, the lower their average blood pressure was over the 24 hours and during the daytime.

But spouses who scored low in marital satisfaction had higher average blood pressure than single people did. During the daytime, their average was about five points higher, entering a range that's considered a warning sign. (That result is for the top number in a blood pressure reading).

"I think this (study) is worth some attention," said Karen Matthews, a professor of psychiatry, psychology and epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh. She studies heart disease and high blood pressure but didn't participate in the new work.

Few studies of the risk for high blood pressure have looked at marital quality rather than just marital status, she said.

It makes sense that marital quality is more important than just being married when it comes to affecting blood pressure, said Dr. Brian Baker, an associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Toronto.
